Marananga Vineyard

Maranange vineyard

Tammy was blessed to spend her childhood on her parent’s descendant vineyard property. This gave her the confidence and the drive to direct her career toward viticulture and aspire to have her own vineyard one day. In 1997, at the age of nineteen, Tammy purchased the 66 acre/27 ha property she now calls Red Nectar Estate, on the outskirts of Marananga, almost adjoining her family property.

At that time it consisted of only 5 acres/2.4 ha of Shiraz vines and grazing land with a beautiful view toward Seppeltsfield and Marananaga. The cuttings, from which these vines were grown, were sourced from 80 year old vines grown on the Moppa in the western Barossa.

After assessing the suitability of the site for red varieties, Tammy proceeded to plant a further 13 acres/5.3 ha of Shiraz and 5 acres/2 ha of Cabernet Sauvignon, clone CW44. Tammy chose this cabernet clone due to its ability to produce fruit of intense colour and flavour on vines of medium to low vigour. The soil consists of red-brown earth over red clay with shale base rock, allowing moisture retention as well as good drainage.
